5 Simple Steps to Experiencing a Deeper Relationship with God

One of the best decisions that you’re ever going to make is developing a relationship with God. I know some people make it look weird.

But you’ll be shocked at how fun it is to finally know in person who your creator is and the inheritance that has been laid out for you before your birth.

Your life might feel blah and you’re not interested in some Jesus talk. Just hear me out! Did you know that God had a plan for us before we were even conceived in our mother’s womb?

You may not understand why your life isn’t going as planned. Maybe you’ve written yourself off, your parents and your friends have given you a label.

I can assure you that the love of God supersedes all our circumstances. You are royalty! God your creator owns everything in heaven and on Earth.

Your birth had been planned and ordained by God and your present circumstances have nothing on you.

Maybe you were adopted, or you grew up in a shelter or a healthy environment. Either way, God had a plan for every one of us.

But you cannot have the peace that passes all understanding if you’re not interested in knowing who God is.

But it starts with acknowledging that God is not a man and taking the first step toward knowing and trusting him.

It also involves letting go of our ego and any disappointment we may have experienced from people.

How do I develop a relationship with God?

The first way to develop a relationship with God is to be born again. This means living a life surrendered to Christ.

God sent his only son Jesus to die for our sins. The sins that came through the fall of the first man Adam and Eve.

Through the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, God gave us a new beginning.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

By surrendering our lives to Jesus we break the hold of sin and Satan over our lives. God also empowers us to pray and ask for anything in Jesus’ name and it will be done.

You can say this prayer and this will be the first step to beginning a relationship with God either as a teenager or at whatever stage of life you are in.

2. Letting go of the reins of control:

Now is the time to step back and let God handle things as best He can. Fixing whatever has been broken!

Maybe you’ve had some bad experiences and you’re wondering why God never showed up.

Girl! We will face challenges in this life, but in Christ, we have already conquered. God makes good on every bit of suffering we’ve gone through.

2. Depending on the Holyspirit

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14:26

Your relationship with God cannot be successful without the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things and guides our thoughts.

He makes the study of the Bible easier to understand. He also reveals the mind of God to us at all times.

It also includes a Bible study mini-course for free that will make your love for the word of God enjoyable.

3. Pray:

One of the best ways to communicate with God is through prayer. This means that you’re giving God access to every aspect of your life.

Learning how to pray without feeling guilt or shame changes everything. If you want to learn more about prayer which everyone should,

The books I will gladly recommend are the Power of a Praying Life by Stormie Omartian and Understanding the Power and Purpose of Prayer by Dr. Myles Munroe

Come with the broken pieces and be sincere in your prayer. Speak to him as you prepare to listen as well.

You may think, “I don’t know what to say.” We all have to begin somewhere. It starts with ‘My Heavenly Father

4. Get a Bible:

If you want to know how this kingdom operates, you’re going to need a Bible. Just as every country has its constitution so does God have a sovereign constitution as well.

You don’t want to live your life through guesswork or by hearsay. When you surrender your life to Christ, He sends you the Holy Spirit who will teach you all things.

You might want to try this pretty Pink Bible and the highlighter to mark out scriptures that the Holy Spirit would teach you.

He is never ever tired of teaching us all things.

5. You need community:

You need to be around other born-again believers. Those who know the word of God and live it.

Attend a believing church where the truth of God’s word is preached. Asking the Holy Spirit to lead you will save you from having to do this on your own.

How to maintain a relationship with God

1. Do not meddle with sin:

Sin means living outside the instructions of God and that makes us an enemy of God. Just because it feels right doesn’t mean it’s God.

Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

Isaiah 59:1-2 NIV

Go to the word of God (the Bible) and the Holy Spirit to guide you.

2. Learn forgiveness:

Another Bait of satan is unforgiveness. You can’t hold grudges and expect mercy from God. Hmm! Anyone who hurt you would also have to set their path right with God.

That is for God to handle and for you to hold your peace.

Is one of the hallmarks of your Christianity and the beginning of your wholeness.

3. Show Gratitude:

Don’t compare your life or your walk with God to anyone else’s. Focus on what God is teaching you through his Holy Spirit in every season.

Also, be grateful for your blessings and the people God will bring your way.

4. Continue to study your Bible and pray:

I cannot over-emphasize the need for prayer and the study of the Word of God.

What gives life is God’s Spirit; human power is of no use at all. The words I have spoken to you bring God’s life-giving Spirit.

John 6:63 GNT

No one can deceive you when you know the word of God.

How can I get closer to God?

You alone can decide how far you want to walk or build your relationship with God.

It takes discipline and perseverance and the help of the Holy Spirit. There will be times you might feel like giving up but remember that God is always there to guide you.
